The Land Data awards celebrate the work and achievements of local land charges teams around the country and give recognition to those local authorities who are playing a key role in modernising and shaping the future of the industry.

This is the fourth time Torridge District Council has been named a winner in the Land Data Local Land Charges Awards. In 2008 and 2009 the council won the Customer Satisfaction Award and in 2010, the council's local land charges officer Kevin Crowl won Local Land Charges Officer of the Year.

The winners of the awards across the six categories were announced on Wednesday 16th February 2011 at Bristol's Grand Hotel at a glittering awards dinner hosted by journalist and media commentator Eve Pollard.

The Marketing Innovation Award won by Torridge recognises those who challenge tried and tested marketing methods in promoting the council's service to solicitors, mortgage lenders and conveyancers. Entrants were asked to demonstrate new and interesting ways to engage customers, outline the results achieved and provide evidence of how the work was carried out.

Solicitors and conveyancers voted for the Customer Satisfaction Award, nominating the local authority that they feel provides the best customer service in terms of quality, reliability and value for money. Torridge District Council came a close second, earning 'Highly Commended' status.

Leader of Torridge District Council Councillor James Morrish said: "These are very difficult times and to be able to maintain such a high level of service to our customers so consistently over the last four years shows once again Torridge is leading the way ahead of the pack."

Council solicitor Ken Miles added, "This is great recognition for the small hard-working team here at Torridge. It's a tremendous achievement and testament to the professionalism and dedication of the staff."

And Jan Boothroyd, Chief Executive of Land Data commented: "The Land Data Local Land Charges Awards aim to celebrate and reward the achievements and accomplishments of local authorities and individuals. This year we had a record number of entries, it is so good to see local land charges departments across the country maintaining such a high level of service in such difficult market conditions."
