Torridge District Council has been highly commended in the Best Performing National Land Information Service (NLIS) Level 3 Local Land Charges Department award category at the 2013 Land Data Local Land Charges Awards for Excellence. The local land charges team at Torridge have either won or been highly commended for an award every year since the awards began six years ago - they are the only local authority in England and Wales to have achieved this!

In addition to the commendation, the team was also shortlisted in two other categories, the Customer Satisfaction Award for Local Authority Searches and the Most improved NLIS (National Land Information Service) Services.

The national awards celebrate the work and achievements of local authority local land charges departments, which carry out land and property searches required for conveyancing transactions throughout England and Wales.

The winners of the awards were announced last night at an awards dinner held in Bristol presented by TV and Radio broadcaster Paul Ross.  Over 130 representatives from local land charges teams from around the country attended the awards dinner.

Torridge District Council leader Barry Parsons commented: "Torridge has been shortlisted for 13 awards over the last six years, winning four outright, being finalists three times and being highly commended twice. To be the only council in England and Wales to have achieved this is quite something. I am delighted that once again hard working staff have received recognition nationally for all their efforts. It shows a consistently high level of commitment right across the board."

The Best NLIS Level 3 Local Land Charges Department of the Year category awards the best performing local land charges department between June and November 2012. The judging of this award is based on the highest overall percentage of NLIS electronic search volumes, the fastest electronic turnaround time and whether an electronic search price is offered to customers.

Kate Crook, NLIS Hub manager, who sponsored the award said: " We are delighted to support these awards that showcase the best examples of NLIS service provision and how it can be used to deliver an excellent service to  the conveyancing community and homebuyer. Congratulations to Torridge District Council."

The Local Land Charges Awards for Excellence are sponsored by NLIS, the Local Land Charges Institute (LLCI), Thames Water Property Searches, SearchFlow and TM Group (UK).
