Warm Rooms

What is a 'warm room'?

Public spaces such as community centres, churches, and libraries are being used as 'warm banks' to provide a safe place for people struggling to heat their homes this winter. Some centres also offer hot food and drinks.

Please note availability and times shown may change over the Christmas holiday period. Please check with the venue for key holiday date opening arrangements.

 

Bideford

  • Bideford Baptist Church - Mondays ,12 noon - 4:00pm, warm room and hot drinks. Mill Street, access at The Hill garden entrance.

  • Lavington United Reformed ChurchTuesdays, 10:00am - 1:00pm, warm room and lunch.

  • Bideford Library - Fridays, 9:30am - 11:00am, warm room and hot drinks.

  • St Mary's Church - Fridays, 11:15am - 1:00pm, warm room and hot food.

  • St Mary's Church - Saturdays, 10:30am - 12:30pm, (second Saturday of the month), warm room and hot drinks.

 

Great Torrington

  • Torrington Library - Mondays 10am - 1pm. Free hot drinks, biscuits, newspapers and board games provided.

  • Bickford Centre - Monday-Saturday inclusive 10am -4pm. Hot drinks £1 or just come in and chat.

  • Torrington Food Bank - Tuesday and Saturday mornings at the Baptist Church offer a warm space 10am-12am

 

Hartland

  • The Anchor Inn -Every day, 11:00am - 5:00pm.

  • The Hart Inn -Tuesdays - 12 noon - 3:00pm.

  • Cafe in the Square - Afternoons until 4:00pm.

  • The Church Rooms - Tuesdays and Fridays, 10:00am - 12 noon.

  • Royal British Legion - Wednesdays, 1:00pm - 4:00pm

 

High Bickington Community Centre

  • Warm room - Monday to Friday, 10.00am - 14.00pm, with hot drinks available, warm room.

  • Community Lunch - Thursdays, 12.30, no need to book.

Visit the centre for a hot meal and meet others in the community. Frozen takeaway also meals are available from the centre, and St Mary's Church, High Bickington, open from 09.00 - 19.30 daily. 

 

Holsworthy

  • Holsworthy Library -Fridays, 10:00am - 1:00pm, warm room and hot drinks.

  • Food on the Go! - Tues, Weds, Thurs (08:30am - 14:00pm). Fri (08:30am - 14:00pm, 16:30 - 19:00pm). Sat (09:00am - 13:30pm). Please ask staff for a warm drink and a slice of toast.

 

Northam

  • Church Hall - 10.00am - 10.45am Northam Methodist Church at Cross Street, Northam, is open for coffee, biscuits, a friendly chat and toasty warm space. All welcome.

  • Northam Town Hall - 9.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday - Hot drinks available.

 

Parkham

  • Parkham Chapel Schoolroom - Fridays 8.45 - 12.00 Coffee, tea, biscuits. People can bring activities they wish to do, jigsaws, knitting, reading materials.

 

While some are listed above all Libraries across Devon are throwing their doors open in welcome this winter, to provide a range of help, support, advice and comfort to people who may be struggling, or beginning to struggle with the rising cost of living. Click here for more information.
