Torridge District Council calls on residents to help name its new recycling lorries

With eleven new recycling lorries due to arrive this Summer Torridge District Council is calling on residents to come up with some creative names for the fleet.
With refuse lorries the Grim Sweeper, Bagatha Christie, Bindiana Jones, Optimus Grime and Trash Gordon already out and about on the roads of Torridge, our recycling team would like to add its own touch of humour to its vehicles.
The fun competition forms part of the Council's ongoing recycling campaign to raise awareness, create an interest in recycling, and help reduce the district's carbon footprint. The Council have highlighted that it is looking for innovation, imagination, and an all-important humorous element citing. Residents are being strongly encouraged to be as creative as possible when suggesting names, but with a polite reminder to refrain from any offensive or inappropriate names.
To enter the competition, residents will need to go online and fill out a web-based form. To enter please click here. Entries close on Sunday 28th June with the winners being notified in July. The winning names for the vehicles will be chosen by the crews, supervisors and managers of the Council's waste and recycling service and will be printed and displayed on the vehicles for the whole of Torridge to see.
Councillor Chris Leather, Lead Member for Operational Services at Torridge Council said:
"This is a fun and creative way to celebrate the new fleet and to get the community involved in something they'll see every week. We know how imaginative our residents are, and we can't wait to see the fantastic names you come up with."
"These recycling vehicles play a vital role in keeping our communities clean and sustainable. By giving them names, we hope residents, particularly children, will feel more connected to the service and the people behind it. It's a great chance to engage, have a laugh, and be part of something meaningful."
