Works Schedule & Information

Works Schedule Thumbnail

Works are now underway on the Appledore Maritime Innovation Centre, with the quay wall works now completed and our Main Contractor appointed to deliver the works to construct the building.

Both our Quay Wall Contractor and our Main Works Contractor have already been in touch with many neighbouring properties to advise of their works and provide their contact details. Our distribution of regular newsletters will continue throughout the life of the project to keep all local residents and visitors informed of progress on site.

Given the works that are proposed, we thought it would be helpful to share some details around the proposed timeline of activities together with some useful information.

Construction Timeline

  • Quay wall/piling works (by our Quay Wall Contractor): Completed.
  • New retaining wall to New Quay Street: Work commenced in early July 2025 and is programmed to complete in December 2025.
  • New Quay Street road closure period: 4th July 2025 to 18th January 2026.
  • Overall project completion: Early Autumn 2026.

Site Working Hours

Site Working Hours will be in accordance with the planning consent.  These are:

Monday - Friday: 0700am - 1900pm and Saturdays between 0800am and 1300pm.

Access: Access to all properties in Appledore will always be maintained without road diversions.  For properties to the north of the site, access will be via the Appledore side of New Quay Street. For properties to the south of the site (i.e. South Road and the surrounding area), access will be from the south of the site.

We have also secured an alternative access route through the Navantia site for site vehicles from June 2025.  This has been secured to help reduce large vehicle movements through Appledore and on New Quay Street.

Pedestrian Routes: A short diversion has been agreed with the Devon County Council Highways Authority and this will be clearly signposted to ensure continuity of pedestrian and cycle routes and the South West Coastal Footpath throughout the works.

Traffic Management: All construction traffic will be managed by specially trained traffic marshals to ensure pedestrian safety as vehicles enter and exit the site.

Noise Control: We are bound by strict planning regulations regarding permissible working hours. While construction inevitably creates some noise, we are committed to minimizing disturbance wherever possible and will maintain open communication with residents to address any specific concerns.

Our Main Contractors site lead is a Torridge resident, and has a personal interest in ensuring this project progresses smoothly with minimal impact on our community.  The project will be registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which means we will be regularly audited on our interactions with the local community.
