Burrows Spring Clean for Climate Week

To coincide with National Climate Week from 4 -10th March , Northam Burrows rangers are organising a Community Burrows Spring Clean day in the popular Country Park and along the famous iconic Pebble Ridge.

Local students will be taking part and Mrs Recycle will be on hand to offer advice and will be running educational events in the Biosphere Inflatable Dome. Members of the public willing to volunteer are welcome to come along too.

Refuse bags, gloves and maps will be provided to all who participate but everyone will need to remember to wear warm clothing and appropriate footwear – it might be wet, muddy and slippery!

Refreshments will be provided by Tescos who will also be conducting a Marine Waste Survey.

Lead member for the Natural and Built Environment councillor Gaye Tabor said, 'Northam Burrows Country Park is there for everyone to enjoy. The Pebble Ridge and the Atlantic provide a stunning backdrop and I'm thrilled that so many people have pledged their support for this event.'

Westward Ho! Ward Member Councillor Roger Tisdale added, 'It's a great time to give the Pebble Ridge a spring clean. The season is about to start and I for one will be rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck in!'

There will be three Spring Cleaning sessions, all on March 8th . You are welcome to choose just one, or come to them all!

No.1 meet at 12 noon at the Westward Ho! gate to the Burrows. If you're up for a challenge and want to get really stuck in this is the one for you! Cleaning along the Pebble Ridge.
Time: 12:00pm
Date: Friday 8 March
Meet: Northam Burrows, Westward Ho! gate

(Please note that due to the excessively wet weather over the last six months the state of the road from the Westward Ho! gate along the Pebble Ridge has deteriorated to such an extent that for health and safety reasons it has had to be partially closed. Volunteers will still be able to park at the entrance.)

No. 2 (start time 1pm) is from the foot bridge over the Pebble Ridge and into the first section of dunes. This will also be very messy and it is here we will be cordoning off a 100m section for Tescos to conduct a marine waste survey. So if you want to become a little more involved and record the waste you are picking up for the benefit of marine scientists, this section is for you.
Time: 1:00pm
Date: Friday 8 March
Meet: Northam Burrows Pebble Ridge car park

No. 3 (start time 2pm, meet at Burrows Centre) is the last section and will involve a lovely walk out to the start area. This is a great place for spotting wading birds whilst you work and is just a lovely area to be in. So if you would like to combine cleaning with a walk and some bird spotting, then this is the one for you!
Time: 2:00pm
Date: Friday 8 March
Meet: Northam Burrows Centre
