Staff at Torridge District Council, in collaboration with Active Torridge, recently took part in Know Your Numbers! Week 2025.

Health and fitness checks were conducted on staff by the Active Torridge team, who provide numerous leisure, sport and wellbeing opportunities across Torridge. Alongside these checks, staff were also encouraged to take part in a series of wellbeing sessions, such as group Yoga and a Strength and Balance class, and compete in a trio of health and fitness quizzes.

Know Your Numbers! Week is the UK's biggest blood pressure testing week, highlighting the importance of regular blood pressure checks and how to find any necessary help or treatment.

Around a third of adults in the UK have high blood pressure but due to its lack of symptoms, most don't know it. If left untreated, it can significantly increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other serious illnesses, making events like this a vital way of encouraging early action.

Chris Keeble, Chief Operating Officer at Active Torridge, said:

"In today's fast-paced world, it's easy for health checks like blood pressure monitoring to fall by the wayside. But did you know that a quick, simple blood pressure check can be a powerful step towards preventing heart attacks and strokes? Plus, it's a fantastic way to kick-start positive lifestyle changes! At Active Torridge, we're here to support you every step of the way. Our team offers expert guidance and vibrant, enjoyable activities tailored to your interests and abilities. Join us and take charge of your health, because staying active and healthy has never been more exciting!"

Councillor Lyndon Piper, Lead Member for Leisure at Torridge District Council, added:

"It's surprising how many of us are unaware of our own health statistics, particularly something as important as blood pressure. Active Torridge have shown us just how quick and easy it is to get your numbers checked and start taking action. We hope our staff will share this message with those around them, helping more people take that vital first step in looking after our health."
