Spring Budget 2017 Relief Scheme: Support for Pubs

A discount of £1,000.00 for Public Houses with a rateable value of less than £100,000. The relief will apply for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 financial years only.

The Government has introduced a new relief scheme for public houses from April 2017. Under the scheme, eligible pubs will receive a £1,000 discount on their rates bill. The relief will have effect for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 financial years.

To qualify, the public house must;

  • be occupied
  • have a rateable value of less than £100,000
  • be open to the general public
  • allow free entry other than when occasional entertainment is provided
  • allow drinking without requiring food to be consumed
  • permit drinks to be purchased at a bar

Relief awarded under this scheme is subject to State Aid de minimis limits and a declaration must be completed by eligible ratepayers to confirm their entitlement to the relief.

Public House relief will end on 31 March 2019. However, many of the ratepayers who benefitted from the relief will now qualify for Retail Relief from 1st April 2019 instead.
