Council Service Updates

New Refuse Vehicles

There is high demand on many services at the moment but we will use this page to update you of any particular issues.

Land Charges and Online Access to Planning Applications

We will be implementing some planned upgrades to our IT systems over 3 days from 4th-6th May. During this time access to the Land Charges information platform will not be possible which may delay processing for a few days. Public access to Planning Applications and ability to leave comments online may also be interrupted intermittently. In the interim comments can be emailed to Planning Support - Planning.Support@torridge.gov.uk

Whilst we have set aside 3 days to do this work - we will endeavour to get services back up and running as soon as possible.

In the meantime and on a general basis we would be grateful if you can only telephone the Council if you have an urgent need which cannot wait as we are trying to help many vulnerable people across the district and in some cases operating at reduced staffing levels meaning we are having to prioritise requests. We would request that you also consider looking for information on our website or government websites where appropriate. We apologise for the inconvenience this will inevitably cause. Various telephone and email contact options are at the bottom of this page.

COUNCIL TAX:

Very high call volumes are being experienced in Council Tax at the moment. In the interim if your request is urgent please email council.tax@torridge.gov.uk and we will respond as soon as possible. Please only email once rather than sending repeated requests.

CREMATORIUM:

The North Devon Crematorium is now closing its memorial gardens to the public following further guidance in relation to Coronavirus, the buildings remain open for funeral services. To minimise the risk of infection services are being restricted to close family members only, and coffin bearing has been stopped. Further precautions have included the removing hymn books and preventing any touching of coffins at the committal. We apologise for any distress this may cause.

NORTHAM BURROWS GATE CLOSURE:

Working with Devon and Cornwall Police Torridge District Council have made the decision to close the vehicle gates to Northam Burrows Country Park until further notice. Please do not try to drive to the park for exercise, this should be carried out from your place of residence in accordance with guidelines on social distancing. The pedestrian gates will remain open.

PLAYGROUND CLOSURES:

In line with guidance on self isolation, staying at home and away from others the Council has closed all communal enclosed spaces within parks such as playgrounds, football pitches skate parks etc, until further notice. The wider public areas in parks will remain open for use for the time being but we would again remind people of the restrictions on movement advised by government. Also in line with this directive all Council operated public toilets will be closed at the same time, the closure will also protect our staff and their families from potential infection.
