Northam Burrows Country Park will be holding a series of special events in May and June to mark commemorations of the 75th anniversary of D Day.

The Burrows Centre will be hosting a "Wartime Westward Ho!" exhibition, explaining the important role the local area played in the conflict. This will open on Saturday 25th May from 11am-5pm and run throughout the summer.

On Tuesday 28th May there will be a family friendly World War Two Discovery Trail from 2-4pm. Then on Thursday 6th June Dave Edgcombe from North Devon Coast AONB will lead a D Day History Walk around the parks wartime features.

This programme has been developed as part of "Devon D Day", an Art Council funded project that has also received support from North Devon Council, the North Devon Coast AONB Sustainable Development Fund and North Devon Marketing Bureau.

Northam Burrows Lead Ranger Michael Day said:

"Northam Burrows is renowned for natural history, but it is also steeped in World War Two History as well, with wartime structures still present in the park today. The events are designed to help everyone explore the important local heritage, and there is something on offer for everyone no matter how old or young."
