Bideford Skate Park Breaks Ground

Skate Park Works Start

Bideford's brand new concrete skate park construction is now underway thanks to successful external funding bids and the full support of all Members for a large Council contribution.

Sitting on the redundant tennis courts within the Bideford sports ground the design and build contract is being undertaken by Canvas Spaces Ltd. The chosen design aims to create a family orientated plaza style skate park, which will be one of a kind for miles around.

With guidance from a local steering group the facility has been conceived in a way that will allow users of all ages and abilities the chance to utilise the area to their full potential in a safe environment, all at the same time.

The intention is that the area becomes a "destination facility", with additional landscaping and seating that will allow families and friends to gather together in a welcoming place where users take "ownership" of the site for themselves.

To set the facility apart from the traditional "skate park" and with a nod to its surroundings the park will incorporate a Bideford bridge themed grind rail with blue coloured concrete running through it representing the River Torridge.

Community Engagement Officer - James Jarroudi said:

"I'm so pleased that work has commenced on this project, it was steered by a local group of keen skaters who helped design it to be used by people of all ages and abilities, it will be a totally unique experience in terms of the local skate scene opportunities and I for one cannot wait to see it opened and used by the community and visitors alike.."

The work is expected to take around 12 weeks to complete.
