Summer Guided Walks & Events 2018

Information on Northam Burrows events this summer.

The summer is here and we are putting on some fantastic free events once again. These are designed to get people of all ages outside and exploring all Northam Burrows Country Park has to offer.

 

This summer we are teaming up with the North Devon Coast AONB to run a programme of Coastal Creatures events exploring the North Devon coastline, to take a closer look at what lives here and how we can protect it. Look out for these special events in the programme below:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What's On

May

Rockpool Ramble

Monday 28th of May 11pm-1pm
Take part in a fun rockpool ramble with Coastwise North Devon and Coastal Creatures who are experts in life on the rocky shore.

Meet on the beach at Westward Ho! Slipway.


Kites in Flight

Tuesday 29th of May 2pm-4pm
Build your very own kite and fly it on the Burrows.

Coastal Creatures Crab Watch

Thursday 31st of May 2pm-4pm
We'll be exploring the rockpools and searching for and surveying crabs as part of a national citizen science project called Crab Watch.
Meet on the beach at Westward Ho! slipway.

June

Northam Burrows Bioblitz-as part of the Coastal Creatures Project

Friday 15th of June 9am-5pm
Join the 8 hour race to explore wildlife around the Burrows! Fun activities running throughout the day including plankton netting, rockpooling, sand dune
exploration and a special base camp set up where you can learn more about wildlife from our local
environmental organisations.

All activities will start and finish at base camp at the Burrows Centre. Here you can find out information and pick up an activity timetable for the day.

There will be no toll charge on this day!

Early Summer Plant Walk


Sunday 1st of July 10am-12pm
Early summer is the best time to see some of the most spectacular plants on the Burrows in flower. 


Coastal Creatures Tideline Treasure Hunt

Tuesday 31st of July 2pm-4pm
Join us for a fun Coastal Creatures treasure hunt along the shoreline.

Meet on the beach at Westward Ho! Slipway.

August

Big Butterfly Count

Thursday 2nd of August 2pm-4pm
Take part in the world's largest butterfly survey and join the rangers for an afternoon of butterfly counting and crafts.


Late Summer Plant Walk


Sunday 5th of August 10am-12pm
Late summer is the best time of year to find the sweet smelling plants on the Burrows.


Every Dog has its Day

Tuesday 7th of August 2pm-4pm
The rangers will be teaming up with the Dogs Trust to bring you a fun family dog show with silly competitions.


Burrows Bug Hunt

Thursday 9th of August 2pm-4pm
Search the dunes for mini-beasts and build your own bug from recycled materials.

Coastal Creatures Sandcastle Competition

Tuesday 14th of August 2pm-4pm
Join Coastal Creatures for a fun sandcastle competition with a coastal theme.

Meet on the beach at Sandymere bridge.


Wild in the Garden

Thursday 16th of August 2pm-4pm
Learn how to make a home for wildlife in your garden out of recycled materials.


X Marks the Spot

Tuesday 21st of August 2pm-4pm
Come and create a pirate outfit and search for buried treasure!


Bumblebee Safari

Thursday 23rd of August 2pm-4pm
Join the rangers and Cathy from the Bumblebee
Conservation Trust on a exciting bumblebee safari in the dunes.


Coastal Creatures Rockpool Lab

Tuesday 28th of August 2pm-4pm
Come along to this special Coastal Creatures rockpool ramble where you will be able to take a closer look at your findings inside our pop-up beach lab.

Birds of the Burrows

Thursday 30th of August 10am-12pm
Join us for a guided walk across the park to see some of our feathery friends.

History of the Pebble Ridge

Sunday 9th of September 10am-12pm
Join the rangers for a guided history walk and learn more about the fascinating secrets of the famous pebble ridge.
