Log ship sails

Konstantin Paustovskiy completed loading early on the tides on Monday evening with 2300 tonnes of logs for Wismar Germany.

Smaller Spring tides, a cut in the tidal level due to Northerly winds (30 cms) and fresh water in the river reducing density only allowed the ship to sail on the largest 5.5m tide this morning at 0540 hrs. The vessel was swung last evening, but uncertain trim and cut in tidal level did not allow her to sail. She remaining in river berth overnight, sailing this morning at 0540 hrs. After trimming her draught was 4.3 metres in fresh water at Bideford and 4.2m when the Pilot was disembarked at sea.
