UNESCO Commemoration of the First World War Centenary on 28th June 2014

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has issued an information note that on 28 June 2014, vessels at sea are requested to fly flags and ensigns at half mast and vessels in harbours are encouraged to sound a signal at a designated time of 1700 h UTC (this is 2000 or 8pm local time), this being the hour of the first shot fired in the conflict, to commemorate the Centenary.

Correction - for those who made contact, local time should have read 18.00 - apologies! You can tell the Harbour Master is away!
