Welsh Piper at the Pilot boarding station - Thom Flaxman

mv WELSH PIPER again had problems discharging her wet cargo during the night, and subsequently cancelled her pilot at 0329hrs re ordering for 1700 hrs this evening.

Unfortunately a roller on her fastmoving conveyor that sends her cargo ashore broke, and she had to sail with only a third of her cargo landed on the jetty at YELLAND.

She is sailing to Avonmouth for repairs. Todays weather was calm, a complete contrast to her arrival yesterday with fresh NW winds and rough sea. Her new young Master is a pleasant efficient Captain who served his apprenticeship with the company before sailing deep sea and subsequently returning to the company. Pilot boat crew John Pavitt Thom Flaxman and the Pilot was Roger Hoad

mv ARCO DART delivered her sand cargo to EVANS Transport wharf at BIDNA this evening. Her master has a Pilot exemption certificate. She sailed at dusk, just after the Welsh Piper..

mv FEHN COURAGE had continuing discharge problems at PORTBURY dock and failed to complete discharge last evening. She finally sailed this afternoon, and will berth at BIDEFORD on the 0456 hrs tide tomorrow morning ready to load her cargo of Ball Clay for CASTELLON in SPAIN. She will sail on Friday pm tide.
