Memorial bench and tree scheme

One way to remember the life of a friend or loved one after their death is through the arrangement of a long-standing tribute, a reminder that they are not forgotten. A memorial seat or tree has always been a popular choice. You can visit the memorial seats and trees at a loved one's favourite viewpoint, either in a park or some other place where they liked to relax and let time pass by.

Conditionsmemorial Tree

Torridge District Council reserves the right to plant trees, install benches or place memorial plaques where suitable, but will accommodate your request if we can.

Seats and trees can only be accommodated on land owned by the District Council. Some locations may have sufficient seats presently in place, adding extra seating may not be beneficial, hence discussions at an early stage are always recommended.

Once planted/installed, your memorial cannot be repositioned or removed from the site. However, should a tree or bench become unsafe, Torridge District Council reserve the right to remove immediately in the interest of health and safety until repairs or replacement can take place.

Torridge District Council will maintain responsibility for your memorial and associated plaque once installed for a 10 year period. This will include any preservation, treatment, repair works and replacement of the memorial where required due to wear and tear or vandalism.

We ask that you do not surround or attach objects to your memorial as this may hinder grounds maintenance or raise health and safety issues.

Please notify us of any change of name or address to ensure that we can contact you should the need arise.
