Animal Licensing Policy Consultation
This will be the first Animal Licensing Policy adopted by the Council. As a result, we want to hear any comments or feedback you may have. Once adopted, the policy will, as standard, be reviewed every three years.

What does the policy cover?
This policy sets out how we exercise our functions in relation to animal related licensing matters, under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976, the Zoo Licensing Act 1981, the Animal Welfare Act 2006, and the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
This includes dealing with applications for new licences and issues relating to licensed premises to include, but not limited to:
- Animal Boarding Establishments for dogs and cats
- Dog breeding
- Pet Shops
- Riding Establishments
- Keeping or training animals for exhibition
- Dangerous wild animals
- Zoos
