TDLP PART 2 - INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Torridge District Local Plan comprises the Written Statement
and the Proposals Map. The Written Statement is in two parts. Part
1 outlines the general strategy and the policies that apply
across the district. Part 2 is area based, containing
policies and proposals that apply to specific towns or villages,
or to specific sites within them.
1.2 This is Part 2 of the Plan.
1.3 The Proposals Map comprises a Districtwide base map and a number
of inset maps. The maps are either bound into the text, or filed
in plastic wallets.
1.4 The section on page 3 of Part 1 explains the
relationship between the two parts of the Plan and the Proposals
Map. All three components must be read together. Decisions by the
Council and other bodies will be based upon the entire Plan - not
just Part 1, Part 2, the Proposals
Map, or individual policies or proposals.
1.5 Part 2 provides detailed guidance only where
it is necessary. This usually means that there are some specific
requirements relating to the development of a site. Unless specifically
noted, the relevant general policies from Part 1
also apply to site-specific proposals.
1.6 This means the following chapters do not refer to, or show
on the Proposals Map, all sites where development is likely, or
where planning permission already has been granted. Only those sites
that have a specific requirement or are central to the strategy
of the District Council are specifically shown. Where other commitments
exist, for example for housing, there is a general reference in
the appropriate section.
1.7 [No text]
1.8 All planning applications for new development, including all
applications to renew existing permissions, will be considered against
the policies and proposals of the Plan. This may result in some
permissions not being renewed in their present form, or not being
renewed at all.
1.9 Wherever development may be permissible and sites have not
been identified, the general policies of the Plan apply.
1.9A The 1999 population estimates for parishes were produced by
the Devon County Corporate Information Service and are based on
the Family Health Service Authority data. This data was the most
up to date source of information available at parish level.
