Preface
My colleagues and I are pleased to have successfully completed
the Torridge District Local Plan. Torridge is a special and distinct
District. The Council recognises that fact and seeks to ensure the
implementation of all statutory processes reflect that position.
This Local Plan is no different.
Planning can be a complex process but in essence it is all about
appropriate land uses and forms of development that operate in the
public interest. This Plan is the culmination of many years detailed
research and preparation that has undergone extensive consultation,
examination and revision to ensure it is fit for the purpose of
guiding new development and conserving our built and natural heritage.
The Council always recognises the need to strive for the best for
its community and to learn lessons based on past experience. The
preparation of the replacement Local Development Framework has now
commenced and lessons learnt from the production of the Torridge
District Local Plan will shape this new portfolio of planning documents.
I look forward to guiding its progress with the integral assistance
of all of our community.
I commend the Plan to everyone who has reason to become involved
in the planning process and I am sure that you will find information
within it that will assist your particular interest.

Councillor R Hicks
Chair of Development and Trading Services
