Devon Chefs (VIDEOs)

Chefs Corner is about local food businesses working together. The project was facilitated by the Council from Apr 2007 - Apr 2011. At the end of the project we asked the chefs and cooks involved if they would like to carry on the project but manage cooking events themselves and they voted to do so. The Chefs Corner project aims to promote local food, healthy eating and cooking skills at local community events. Reduce the amount of processed 'white' foods you consume, eat more whole foods, get plenty of different-coloured vegetables and fruit. We get more sustained energy and less damaging insulin in our bodies by eating more foods with low sugar, salt and fat levels, and by reducing intake of these three common ingredients, you'll also reduce the likelihood of getting Type 2 Diabetes, Coronary Heart disease and Cancers. 

The Food and Safety Team has built up a good relationship with local food businesses through providing free "Safer Food, Better Business" Food Safety Management Training and through the Traffic Light Scores on the Doors scheme.

The Chefs involved in the project have made a commitment to give their time for free at local events. You can watch videos of the Chefs in action via the links on the left-hand side of this page. We have previously run events at RHS Gardens Rosemoor, Atlantic Village, Appledore Arts Festival and do regular cooking presentations at the Farmers Markets in Torridge.
