Recycling - Frequently Asked Questions

Torridge District Council in partnership with South Molton Recycle operates a weekly kerbside recycling collection. The service contributes to the Council's aim to maintain 'a world class environment' in Torridge by maximising reuse, reduction and recycling and by minimising the waste that is land-filled.

  • On which day will my recycling be collected?
Our crews pick up recycling each day. To find out on which day your recycling will be collected, please contact the recycling team.
  • What can I put in my recycling box?
We collect most recyclable materials including glass bottles and jars, food tins, drinks cans, paper and some plastic containers. For more information on what can go in your recycling box please click on the 'Green Box and Bag Collection' leaflet in the related downloads section.
  • You have not picked up my recycling box? What can I do?
So long as you have put out your recycling by 7.45am on the morning of the collection, then we would usually arrange to return to pick up your recycling. We may have been unable to collect certain types of recycling and in this case we should have indicated this with a sticker. If you would like to report a missed box then please use the MISSED COLLECTION Form Link to report a missed collection on the right of this page.
  • Do you collect garden waste?
We currently collect garden waste from some properties in the district and are planning to expand the number of properties that we collect from. Garden waste is collected on a fortnightly basis during the summer months and on a monthly basis throughout the winter. To check whether you receive a garden waste collection, please use the DO IT ONLINE - Find out my recycling day link on the right of this page
  • What do I do if my box goes missing / gets broken?
If your box goes missing or is broken, we can arrange to have another one delivered to your property. Please use the NEWBOX Form Link to order a new recycling box on the right of this page.
  • Can I have a second box?
If you have more than 5 people in the house then you can have a second recycling box. Please use the NEWBOX Form link to order a new recycling box on the right of this page.
  • Can I take my recycling to a recycling centre?
Devon County Council operate a number of recycling centres throughout Devon. To find your nearest, please use the Find my nearest recycling centre link on the right of this page.
