Local Development Framework

Planning the future for Torridge

The Local Development Framework (LDF) is the name for the suite of documents that will shape and guide how development takes place in the towns, villages and countryside of Torridge.

The documents of the Local Development Framework and the Regional Spatial Strategy (South West Plan) will over time replace the existing Development Plan made up of the Local Plan and Structure Plan.

Sitting at the heart of the Local Development Framework is the Core Strategy. The Core Strategy is being jointly prepared with North Devon Council and will set out a spatial vision for northern Devon over the next fifteen to twenty years. It aims to tackle the big issues that the area is likely to face over this time such as providing appropriate housing and employment opportunities in a sustainable manner whilst protecting or enhancing the environment.
