Council Tax
There are about 30,000 households in the Torridge District Area, each household has a liability to pay council tax, although in some cases exemptions or discounts apply.
From April 2013 all Council Taxpayers will have the right to pay by 12 Instalments if they choose to do so. In addition the Council will be offering 3 additional payments dates to give customers more flexibility in meeting their payment obligations. The payment dates available are the 1st , 7th , 15th 21st & 28th. Anyone wishing to change their payment details should contact the Council Tax team to discuss their requirements on 01237 428900.
Council Tax was introduced on the 1st April 1993 and replaced the Community Charge ("Poll Tax") with a tax based on the value of dwellings.

On 26 November Council approved the new Council Tax Support scheme (CTS) for the working age public within Torridge. The CTS scheme replaces the current Council Tax Benefit scheme which is being abolished from 31.03.13.
