We want to provide the best possible services to our residents so we need to monitor our performance to see how good they really are.
Our performance is monitored both by central government and internally.

The Monthly Business Monitoring Report (MBR) summarises achievements and progress against the Councils Strategic Plan 2012-15 and current key Business Plans actions, measures, expenditure and income.

Torridge District Council's Annual Report provides details of the council's performance against targets and reports on the financial performance for the financial year. The report also sets out the vision for the council along with the key achievements for the council. -

The Council seeks to balance the need to set pay levels that are adequate to secure and retain high-quality employees dedicated to the service of the public, with a need to ensure that pay is not unnecessarily generous or otherwise excessive. This pay policy statement applies specifically to Chief Officers (a term which includes both statutory Chief Officers and non statutory Chief Officers) but also those officers who report direct to the Head of Paid Service and are part of the Council's Corporate Management Team.

The Council's external auditor is an independent body responsible for ensuring that public money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively, to achieve high quality local services for the public. In Autumn 2012 Grant Thornton were appointed to act as the independent external auditor or watchdog on the Council's performance in key areas.

In line with best practice requirements and in order to ensure that we maintain high standards of corporate governance in the way in which we carry out our functions Torridge has produced a Local Code of Corporate Governance. The Council also issues an Annual Governance Statement.

With 4.6 million members, the Local Government Pension Scheme is one of the largest public sector pension schemes in the UK. The LGPS is a nationwide scheme and is a valuable part of the pay and reward package for employees working in local government or working for other employers participating in the Scheme and for some councillors. The Scheme is administered locally for participating employers through 99 regional pension funds. (www.lgps.org.uk) -
The Government is seeking to make the public sector more transparent to the public and is encouraging local authorities to publish information on their spending. To aid this transparency we are publishing information on payments over £500.
