Sunday Trading

The Sunday Trading Act 1994 regulates the opening of "large shops" on Sundays."Large shops" are those with a retail area in excess 280 sq metres

Such businesses can open for retail or sale on Sundays (excluding Easter Sunday and Christmas Day) for a maximum of 6 hours and must give notice to the authority of proposed new opening hours.

The authority maintains a register of shops which have given notice and enforces the relevant provisions of the Act.
