Torridge has made significant improvements and is proud to be "performing well". Torridge continues to manage change and deliver cost effective quality services to its residents, businesses and visitors and continues to plan for: life after the recent Local Government Review, riding out the global recession, and anticipated cuts in public spending. Partnership working with North Devon and other councils across Devon remains a key priority.

The structure is headed by Jenny Wallace, Head of Paid Service. A team of Service Heads report to the Head of Paid Service, who retains overall responsibility for all services.

Heads of Service are the operational leads of the individual services and are responsible for the staff within their services and the day-to-day running of the service. The Corporate Management Team is responsible for the strategic management of the organisation.

Service Managers are operational managers of services and report to Heads of Service.

What is the Corporate Management Team?

This team is the main officer decision making body and works alongside and for the councillors you elect to run the District Council's services, such as waste collection, street cleaning, parks, play areas, leisure, housing services, economic development and regeneration, planning and more.

The CMT is made up of the Head of Paid Service and Heads of Service. By law, senior Council staff are not allowed to participate in any party political activity and are expected to advise and assist all councillors irrespective of their political affiliation.

The CMT meets fortnightly and is responsible amongst other things for:

Managerial leadership and direction of the council;

The development of corporate policy and initiatives for Council consideration;

Co-ordination and commissioning of council-wide activity, planning and programme management to deliver top quality local services.

This team is responsible for the work of around 280 and leads an organisation that provides vital local services; co-ordinates with the public sector partners, the private and voluntary sectors; and represents the interests of Torridge on a local, regional, national and even international stage.
