Radon has been recognised as a cause of lung cancer in humans for many years. Because of the risk from radon, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) have advised that excessive exposures to radon should be reduced.
The map in the link to the right of this page gives an indication of wether radon protection is needed. This can be no protection, basic protection or full protection.
Basic protection requires a gas proof membrane connected to a cavity tray.
Full protection is the same as basic protection with the addition of a radon sump. There is a downloadable page on the right of this page giving details of sump construction.
