Historic Landmark Building in Bideford available Freehold or Leasehold

Bridge Buildings

Torridge District Council in partnership with Webbers Commercial have launched the offer of "Bridge Buildings" in Bideford for Freehold sale or Leasehold use. The disposal is part of the Councils "Transforming Torridge" programme and a move to occupy fewer sites in the town to improve efficiency and reduce costs. It also offers the potential for a new vibrant lease of life for the grade II listed building which dates back to 1758 when it was rebuilt as a college. The property is located on the waterfront in Bideford and retains many original features.

The building is currently set out as office accommodation on four floors as well as having a cellar below. The office suites to the front and rear, are connected by an impressive central staircase and lift, and in all there are circa 7,700 square feet benefiting from central heating and having been re-furbished in 2012 and previously remodelled.

The Council has owned the freehold since 1974 but there has been a building on this site since 1689. The property and freehold is being offered for sale or the whole to rent and a full brochure with floor plans is available from Webbers Commercial by contacting Tony Foster, Associate Director at Webbers Commercial, on 01271-347888.

Councillor James Morrish - Lead Member for the Economy said:

"The sale or lease of Bridge Buildings is an important next step in the Councils plans to move its operations to a single site. However it is also a fantastic opportunity to revitalise the economy in the town through new ownership and further development. There is potential for a variety of uses as existing offices for a large Company Headquarters or for other commercial uses such as catering, serviced offices or even an art hub. Alternatively there is also a potential to convert the accommodation to residential apartments and build out Luxury units overlooking the River, subject of course to planning permission and listed building consent. It's certainly a rare opportunity to acquire such a landmark and iconic building in a unique and attractive location overlooking the river Torridge and historic Long Bridge. The redevelopment of this site and Brunswick wharf will undoubtedly bring jobs and further prosperity to the Town"
