Over £334,000 now available under 2017/18 Torridge Community Grant Scheme

Bradford School

In 2016 Torridge Councillors introduced the first Community Grant Scheme funded by the New Homes Bonus received from Central Government. Over £318,000 was allocated to over 50 projects across the district ranging from Village Hall Improvements, Play Parks, Boxing Equipment and even night time landing lights for emergency services!

For 2017/18 there will be a further £334,000 available to help many more projects become a reality. The funds can be applied for through a relatively simple application process and by following a few rules:

  • A Project must be run by a Local Parish or Town council, voluntary organisation, community group, social enterprise - not individuals or businesses.

  • A Project must be within the Torridge area with funds to benefit residents of Torridge.

  • It must have the support of ALL relevant Local Ward Councillor(s).

  • The project should be able to demonstrate a long-term positive impact.  Applications for capital spending will be considered, but core organisational costs such as salaries, rent or utilities will not be eligible.

  • Bids must be for a minimum £1000 and a maximum of £30,000.

  • Funding is not available for already completed projects.

Councillor Jane Whittaker - Leader Torridge District Council said:

"As a Councillor this has easily been one of the highlights of the last year. It has been an absolute pleasure  to see so many deserving causes from across the patch benefit from this  grants scheme.  However it wouldn't have been possible without the huge investment of time and effort  made by so many people from  right across the district who've  brought their ideas forward when making their applications  in the first place. We have made the process of applying as simple and straight forward as possible and our officers are also available to assist applicants  in any way that they can. We would encourage residents  to apply as soon as possible and make further good use of the money that's been allocated by ensuring that it is invested in more local projects and activities."
