Art On The Quay in Bideford

Art on the Quay

Torridge Councillor Johnny Langton-Lockton is calling on all artists to take advantage of a brand new venue for displaying artwork in Torridge. The Council are offering all local artists the opportunity of displaying any original work, for free, along the riverside Landivisiau Walk in Bideford on Sundays during the summer months. If the pilot is successful then the plan is to make this a permanent feature of quay life in Bideford and an additional draw for locals and tourists alike.

The venue will be available for exhibitions on every Sunday from 26th March to 29th October and will be open to anyone wanting to display their artwork. Councillor Langton-Lockton hopes that the event will attract not only professionals but amateurs and school children alike which has been emphasised through a "no selection" policy for the art to be displayed. With ample parking and only a short walk form the Town Centre it's hoped that the exhibitions will become a regular must see for many people, while at the same time complementing other events held in the Town.

Councillor Langton-Lockton said:

"There were really two aims in bringing forward this idea, one was to help generate a wider interest in art and local artwork but also to make better use of the fantastic backdrop of the quay and River Torridge. We think this will be a great place to congregate on a Sunday and hope that the art on the quay will become a notable fixture in peoples diaries. We want to encourage as wide a range of people as possible to take up the opportunity to exhibit their work and with such a long walkway there should be plenty of space for everyone"

Potential exhibitors are invited to display original work on any Sunday during the period, come rain or shine, taking care not to damage any walls, gardens or other street furniture in putting up their work. The Council would also ask people to leave the area clean and tidy and help promote a degree of self regulation to ensure the success and continuation of the event into the future.
