Annual Electoral Register update

Your Vote Matters - Don't Lose It!

Every household will be sent a Household Enquiry From in July requesting that the occupiers provide up to date details of any eligible electors in the property.

In order to remain registered and avoid a fine you must respond to this form every year.

Any new electors added to the form during this process will be sent an additional form to register to vote individually.  They can also Register to Vote online

If we do not receive a response from your property by 30 August a reminder will be sent.  If no response has been received by October, a canvasser will need to visit the property in person

How should I respond?

If there are no changes you can respond in four ways:

1. Online - via www.householdresponse.com/torridge

2. By phone - 0800 197 9871

3. By text - 80212

4. By post

If you need to make a change to the information listed on the form, you can respond in two ways:

1. Online - via www.householdresponse.com/torridge

2. By post

In order to be able to vote in elections you name must be included in the Register of Electors.  Residents whose names are added to the household form will need to register individually.  They can Register to Vote online in as little as 5 minutes.  If they do not register online they will be sent an individual application form which will need to be returned before they can be added to the electoral register.

What information do I need to provide?

If your details are correct you simply need to confirm them.  If you need to add or remove electors, or change the existing details, then you need to include the changes on the online form or on the form if you choose to post it back to us.

Why do I need to respond to the form?

It is a legal requirement to provide accurate information for the electoral register.  If you do not respond to the canvass you may be removed from the electoral register and not be ale to vote in elections.  You may also have difficulty in obtaining credit which could impact on applications for mortgages, credit cards or even a mobile phone contract.

Who can register?
  • Anyone eligible aged 16 or over (you cannot vote until you are 18)
  • British or qualifying Commonwealth citizens
  • Citizens of the Republic of Ireland or other European Union (EU) member states
