Tug awaiting Southern Beaver tow leaves for London ex tow - Yelland fights for cargoes - Devon Life Article on log ships and Bideford Harbour completed - Bad weather causes boat to break loose and capsize - Lifeboat rescues workboat off Bideford Bar.

Tug Aircitron (Thanmes Towage) sailed this morning from Bideford Quay after waiting for the old bottom dumping barge SOUTHERN BEAVER to be readied and a suitable weather window for the tow. Unfortunately further problems with the barge have further delayed the tow to Southampton.

The tug encountered large seas and turned back from Hartland Point to take shelter at LUndy. After initially deciding to return to Bideford and booking a Pilot, he instead took advantage of the moderating weather and was six hours from Lands End at 1630 this afternoon.

YELLAND QUAY is fighting to gain cargoes for its jetty, with its storage area, but remains of difficult access at night for ships, and is much more exposed than Bideford wind wise.Caroline Rees Nov 12
